In psychology, a savior complex is an attitude in which a person believes they are responsible for assisting other people, often accompanied by empathic episodes and impulsive commitments such as volunteering, donating, or advocating for a cause. A person with the complex will typically keep trying to help even when the help is not wanted, is not effective, or is harmful to the situation, to others, or to themselves.
