Neophobia is the fear of anything new, which in its milder form can manifest as an unwillingness to try new things or break from routine. In children the term is generally used to describe a tendency to reject unknown or novel foods, a concern in pediatric psychology known as food neophobia; in biomedical research neophobia is studied in connection with taste and the brain regions and cellular factors affecting an animal's willingness to try new foods, and in ecological research it is seen as a trait that can both protect wild animals from novel dangers and prevent them from accessing novel resources.
