Nosophobia, also known as disease phobia or illness anxiety disorder, is the irrational fear of contracting a disease, a type of specific phobia. Common primary fears of this kind include fear of contracting HIV, tuberculosis, a sexually transmitted infection, cancer, heart disease, COVID-19, or the common cold or flu; the word derives from the Greek nosos, disease, and phobos, fear.
