Brain Fag Syndrome

Brain fag syndrome is a term used to describe a set of symptoms including difficulty concentrating and retaining information, head or neck pain, and eye pain, believed to be most common among adolescents and young adults because of the pressures occurring during those years. The term originated in nineteenth-century Britain before becoming, in the 1960s, a colonial-era description applied to Nigerian high school and university students. Now considered outdated, its status as a culture-bound syndrome caused by excessive pressure to succeed among the young has been disputed by the researcher Ayonrinde in a 2020 study.
