Alektorophobia is the fear of chickens and other domestic fowl. Sufferers may react with distress to the sight, sound or proximity of live birds, their eggs or even images of them, a reaction sometimes traced to a childhood incident involving poultry. As with other specific animal phobias, the fear is considered disproportionate to any real danger the animal poses.
