Interpretive bias, or interpretation bias, is an information-processing bias defined as the tendency to inappropriately analyze ambiguous stimuli, scenarios or events. One recognized type is hostile attribution bias, in which a person perceives a benign or ambiguous behavior as hostile, as when one friend walks past another without acknowledging them and the second friend interprets the behavior to mean their friend is angry with them.
