The messiah complex is a state of mind in which a person believes they are a messiah or prophet destined to save or redeem others through a religious mission. The term is also used for a belief that one is personally responsible for saving other people generally. People described this way can act from genuine, even self-sacrificing, wishes to help others, or from a desire for praise, power, or validation.
