A growth mindset is the belief that one's intelligence, talent and other basic qualities can be developed through dedication, effort and learning from failure. The concept was introduced by psychologist Carol Dweck, whose research found that people holding this belief tend to embrace challenges, persist longer through setbacks, and view effort as the path to mastery. It is contrasted with a fixed mindset, the belief that such qualities are essentially unchangeable traits.
