A digital zombie is a person so engaged with digital technology or social media that they are unable to separate themselves from a persistent online presence. Writing in 2017, University of Sydney researcher Andrew Campbell raised concerns about whether such a person can live a full and healthy life while preoccupied with the digital world, and other commentators have applied the term to related behaviors, including people fixed on their phones while hunting digital creatures in augmented-reality games in public spaces; the University of Warwick has also used the term in arguing that further research is needed on people who exist in digital form after death, to help the bereaved grieve.
