Spatial Anxiety

Clinical and Motivational Phenomena

Spatial anxiety, sometimes called spatial orientation discomfort, is a sense of anxiety a person experiences while processing environmental information in their geographical surroundings for the purpose of navigation and orientation, especially through an unfamiliar space. It is also linked to stress felt in anticipation of a spatial task, such as mental rotation, spatial perception or object location memory, and in particularly severe cases can result in a more serious form of distress such as agoraphobia.
