Zoom Fatigue

Clinical and Motivational Phenomena

Zoom fatigue is tiredness, worry or burnout associated with the overuse of online communication platforms, particularly videoconferencing software. It takes its name from the videoconferencing service Zoom, though the term is used for fatigue from any similar platform, such as Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. It was popularized during the COVID-19 pandemic, when videoconferencing became common because of widespread isolation and lockdowns, and researchers have attributed it to an overload of nonverbal cues not normally present in face-to-face conversation and to the larger average size of video call groups.
