Affective Forecasting

Clinical and Motivational Phenomena

Affective forecasting, also known as hedonic forecasting, is the act of predicting one's own future emotional state, an ability that shapes the preferences, decisions and behavior a person settles on in the present. Because it sits at the intersection of how people plan their lives and how well those plans can be trusted to deliver the feelings they expect, affective forecasting is studied by both psychologists and economists, and its findings carry broad application across both fields.
