Atelophobia is the fear of imperfection or of not being good enough, producing intense anxiety around mistakes, criticism or falling short of a standard. It can extend into everyday decisions, work and relationships, where a sufferer may avoid a task entirely rather than risk an imperfect outcome. It is discussed alongside perfectionism but is distinct from it: perfectionism is a personality trait, while atelophobia is an anxiety response severe enough to interfere with daily functioning.
