Frigophobia

Frigophobia is a phobia involving a pathological concern about hypothermia and is a psychiatric condition that appears mainly within Chinese culture, in which sufferers compulsively bundle up in heavy clothes and blankets regardless of the surrounding air temperature. The condition has been linked to other psychological disorders such as hypochondriasis and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and a 1975 study among ethnic Chinese people in Taiwan noted that frigophobia may be culturally linked to koro, where sufferers feel their penis is retracting into the body from an insufficiency of the male element, or yang, while male frigophobia sufferers instead correlate coldness with an over-abundance of the female element, or yin.
