Tamagotchi Effect

The Tamagotchi effect describes the emotional attachment people can form toward inanimate machines, robots or software agents, particularly when those objects simulate human behavior or exhibit apparent intelligence. The name comes from the Tamagotchi virtual pet toy, and the effect is also seen in people's attachment to other interactive devices, even though these objects do not actually possess genuine emotions of their own.
