Dental phobia, also called dental fear or odontophobia, is a severe and persistent fear of dental treatment marked by anxiety toward specific dental situations, such as drilling or injections, or toward the dental setting in general, usually accompanied by a sense of losing control. It is distinguished from ordinary dental anxiety by its severity and by the avoidance of dental care that it produces.
