Aerophobia

Clinical and Motivational Phenomena

Aerophobia is a specific phobia involving an intense, persistent fear of flying in aircraft. People with the condition often experience anticipatory anxiety before a flight and physical symptoms such as a racing heart, sweating or nausea once airborne, and many avoid air travel entirely as a result. It is commonly addressed with exposure-based and cognitive behavioral therapies aimed at reducing the anticipatory dread rather than the statistical risk of flying itself.
