Atychiphobia is the fear of failure, an anxiety intense enough to make a person avoid attempting a task altogether rather than risk not succeeding at it. It commonly affects performance in school, work or competitive settings, and can be self-reinforcing, since avoidance prevents the person from ever testing whether the feared failure would actually occur. It is often addressed with cognitive behavioral approaches that target the underlying beliefs about the meaning of failure.
