Alice Eagly

Alice H. Eagly is an American psychologist and emerita professor of psychology at Northwestern University, where she was the James Padilla Chair of Arts and Sciences. Her research centers on social psychology, along with personality and industrial-organizational psychology, and she is known in particular for social role theory, which explains observed psychological differences between men and women as arising from the different social roles each gender has historically occupied rather than from fixed biological difference. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2022.
