Midlife Crisis

Developmental Phenomena

A midlife crisis is a transition of identity and self-confidence that can occur in middle-aged individuals, typically between the ages of forty and sixty-five. It is sparked by a growing awareness of aging, mortality and one earlier life accomplishments, and it can generate profound sadness and worry about how much time remains, or it can provoke a desire to recapture youthfulness and to fundamentally restructure one own existence, such as a career, relationship or lifestyle.
