Sandra Ruth Lipsitz Bem was an American psychologist known for her work on androgyny and gender studies. Her pioneering research on gender roles, gender polarization and gender stereotypes, including the Bem Sex Role Inventory she developed to measure masculinity and femininity as independent dimensions, contributed directly to more equal employment opportunities for women in the United States.
