In psychoanalytic theory, the Jocasta complex names an incestuous sexual desire of a mother toward her son. Raymond de Saussure introduced the term in 1920 as the logical converse of the Oedipus complex, and later writers extended it to milder patterns as well, including a domineering but non-sexual maternal attachment, a pattern some link to an absent father.
