Alliesthesia is a psychophysiological phenomenon describing how the pleasure or displeasure a person experiences from a stimulus depends on the internal state of their body at the time. The French physiologist Michel Cabanac first described the phenomenon, publishing his initial work in 1968 and following it with further studies in journals including Nature in 1970 and Science in 1971.
