Anne Anastasi

Anne Anastasi was an American psychologist best known for her pioneering development of psychometrics. Her book Psychological Testing became a classic text that drew attention to the responsibilities of test administrators and urged them to look beyond a raw test score to an individual's history in order to understand what a result actually meant, since Anastasi argued that a test reveals only what a person knows at the time, not why. She served as president of the American Psychological Association in 1972, the third woman ever elected to that role, and later received the American Psychological Foundation's gold medal and the National Medal of Science.
