Enrique Pichon-Riviere was a Swiss-born Argentine psychiatrist considered one of the people who introduced group psychoanalysis to Argentina, and the creator of the group theory known as the operative group. In the 1940s he was a founding member of the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association, and in the 1950s he took part in creating the first private school of social psychology in Argentina along with the Argentine Institute of Social Studies. His theory of group functioning was built on a dialectical view of the relationship between dialectic, homeostasis and cybernetics.
