Groups the phenomena of the psychology atlas whose central finding concerns the boundary or altered states of consciousness around sleep and waking: lucid dreaming, hypnagogia, false awakening, sleep paralysis, highway hypnosis, mind-wandering and microsleep are its founding members. Belongs here: any phenomenon defined by what consciousness or awareness is doing during sleep onset, sleep itself, waking, or a lapse into or out of either, rather than a phenomenon defined by a judgment bias, a memory effect, a social or group effect, a defense mechanism, a general clinical or motivational pattern, a perceptual distortion, or a developmental stage. A phenomenon whose central finding concerns one of those other classification schemes belongs in one of the atlas own other groups instead.
