Social Undermining

Social Biases and Group Effects

Social undermining is the expression of negative emotions directed at a particular person, or negative evaluations of that person, carried out in a way meant to hinder their ability to reach their goals, to maintain a positive identity, or to build and keep positive relationships with others. It describes a quieter form of interpersonal harm than open conflict, in which the undermining person's words or actions work against someone rather than confronting them directly.
