Social Processes and Social Issues

Groups the branches that examine psychology through the lens of culture, identity, ideology and large-scale social issues rather than through an individual's internal processes alone: Cross-Cultural Psychology and Cultural Psychology study how culture shapes mind and behavior in general, Asian Psychology, Black Psychology, Filipino Psychology and Indian Psychology develop psychological theory and practice grounded in a specific cultural or national tradition, Indigenous Psychology develops psychology from within a community's own indigenous knowledge and worldview, Feminist Psychology examines gender, power and women's experience, Political Psychology studies the psychological roots of political belief and behavior, and Peace Psychology studies the psychological conditions that promote or prevent violence and war. A branch whose primary lens is an individual's cognition, biology or clinical condition rather than culture or social ideology belongs elsewhere.
