Branch of psychology sorts studies by the area of psychology they were designed to test. Wikipedia states, "An experiment is a procedure carried out to support or refute a hypothesis, or determine the efficacy or likelihood of something previously untried," and each study belongs to whichever branch first posed that hypothesis. This grouping keeps studies with a shared research question together.
