Cross-Cultural Psychology

Groups the studies whose central finding concerns whether or how a psychological phenomenon holds true, or varies, across different cultures and societies rather than within a single population alone. Belongs here: Ekman's Cross-Cultural Facial Expression Studies, which tested whether facial expressions of emotion are universally recognized across a Western sample and an isolated, largely preliterate New Guinea culture with minimal prior outside contact. A study conducted within one culture that merely happens to touch on cultural themes, without a genuine cross-cultural comparison as its actual point, is filed under the branch that phenomenon otherwise belongs to.
