Diana Baumrind was an American developmental psychologist known for her research on parenting styles and for her critique of the use of deception in psychological research. Her typology of parenting styles, distinguishing authoritative, authoritarian and permissive approaches, became one of the most widely used frameworks in developmental psychology for studying how parenting shapes children's outcomes.
