The fear of falling, also called basophobia or basiphobia, is a natural fear typical of most humans and mammals in varying degrees. It differs from acrophobia, the fear of heights, in that it concerns the anxieties accompanying the sensation and possible dangerous effects of falling rather than heights themselves, and someone with little fear of falling is said to have a head for heights. Basophobia is sometimes associated with astasia-abasia, the fear of walking or standing erect.
