Developmental Phenomenon

Type of phenomenon separates effects that are adaptive from those that are simply errors. Wikipedia notes that "cognitive biases may initially appear to be negative, some are adaptive," since a quick judgment can sometimes be more useful than a perfectly accurate one. This grouping lets a visitor tell a helpful mental shortcut apart from a genuine distortion.
