A specific phobia whose feared object is a particular kind of animal, insect or other arthropod, one of the most common families of specific phobia recorded in the clinical literature and often traced to an evolved caution toward creatures that historically posed a real risk of venom, disease or injury. This group gathers the animal and insect phobias recorded under Psychology's Specific Phobias group, spanning fears of common household animals such as cats and dogs, farm and working animals such as horses, and a wide range of insects, arachnids, reptiles, amphibians and other small creatures each named by its own specific phobia term.
