Pseudoneglect

Pseudoneglect is the natural tendency of most people to shift their spatial attention slightly toward the left. It was identified through experiments using the line bisection task, in which a person is asked to mark the exact center of a horizontal line; on average, people's marks fall slightly left of the true center rather than being evenly spread around it, and a similar leftward bias appears in other visuospatial tasks. The phenomenon takes its name from its resemblance to hemispatial neglect, a condition in some patients with brain injury who ignore one side of space entirely, though pseudoneglect's own effects are far milder and are mainly detected under controlled experimental conditions.
