The Franssen effect is an auditory illusion in which a listener incorrectly localizes the source of a sound. It was identified in 1960 by the Dutch physicist and inventor Nico Valentinus Franssen, and is demonstrated through two classic experimental setups known as Franssen effect F1 and Franssen effect F2.
