Misophonia

Misophonia is a disorder of decreased tolerance to specific sounds or their associated stimuli, causing strong negative emotional and physiological reactions to particular trigger sounds that most people do not find troubling, most commonly mouth, nose, and throat sounds such as chewing or breathing, along with repetitive sounds made by other people, objects, or animals; a related visual form of the reaction is called misokinesia. Misophonia is not currently listed as a diagnosable condition in the DSM-5-TR, ICD-11, or any comparable manual, which affects patients ability to obtain a formal diagnosis, although an international panel of experts published a consensus definition of the condition in 2022 to standardize how clinicians and researchers describe it.
