Prosopagnosia

Prosopagnosia, commonly called face blindness, is a disorder of face perception in which the ability to recognize familiar faces, including ones own face in a mirror or photograph, is impaired while other aspects of vision, such as recognizing objects, and other intellectual abilities remain intact. It was originally described in cases of acquired prosopagnosia following brain damage, but researchers have also identified a congenital or developmental form present from birth with no history of brain injury, with the two forms combined estimated to affect roughly two to two and a half percent of the population.
