Visual Capture

Visual capture, also known as the ventriloquist effect, is the dominance of vision over the other senses in forming a perception. Visual information can override what another sense, such as hearing or touch, is conveying, so the perceived environment does not match the actual physical stimuli. It lets a person misjudge the location of a sound, such as perceiving a screen actor's voice as coming from the moving lips rather than from the actual loudspeaker, because the visual system supplies more spatially precise information than hearing does.
