Affinity bias, also known as the similarity bias, the similar-to-me effect, or the mini-me syndrome, is an implicit cognitive bias in which people are favorably biased toward others who are like themselves. The similarities behind the bias can stem from many personal attributes, including appearance, race, gender, socioeconomic background and educational attainment, and the bias can hamper creativity and collaboration by encouraging insular thinking.
