Egocentrism

Egocentrism is the tendency to view a situation primarily from one's own perspective and to have difficulty understanding or considering the perspectives of others. It is found across the entire life span, from infancy through early childhood, adolescence and adulthood, and although egocentric behaviors become less prominent in adulthood, the fact that some forms of egocentrism persist suggests that overcoming it may be a lifelong development that is never fully completed. Adults appear less egocentric than children mainly because they correct away from an initially egocentric perspective more quickly, not because they are any less likely to adopt that perspective in the first place.
