Diederik Stapel is a Dutch former professor of social psychology at Tilburg University. In 2011 the university suspended him after finding that he had fabricated and manipulated data for his research publications over a number of years, affecting dozens of studies; by 2015 fifty eight of his publications had been retracted. His case became one of the defining scandals behind psychology's ongoing replication crisis and its push for stronger research integrity safeguards.
