Douglas Murray McGregor was an American management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and president of Antioch College from 1948 to 1954. He was a student of Abraham Maslow and contributed to the development of management and motivational theory. He is best known for Theory X and Theory Y, presented in his 1960 book The Human Side of Enterprise, which proposed that a manager's individual assumptions about human nature and behavior determine how that manager manages employees.
