James Olds was an American psychologist considered one of the founders of modern neuroscience. In 1954, while at McGill University, he and Peter Milner discovered what were initially described as the brain's pleasure centers through electrical stimulation experiments on rats, work now understood as identifying components of the brain's reward system. He was elected to the United States National Academy of Sciences for this work.
