Max Wertheimer (1880-1943) was one of the three founders of Gestalt psychology, along with Kurt Koffka and Wolfgang Kohler. He developed his Gestalt theory in 1910 while traveling by train from Vienna, publishing his founding results in 1912. He later joined the faculty of The New School in New York, holding that position until his death, and is particularly recognized for his book Productive Thinking and for conceiving the phi phenomenon.
