Schema Therapy

Clinical Psychology

Schema therapy is a form of integrative psychotherapy developed by Jeffrey E. Young for treating personality disorders and other chronic conditions such as long-term depression, anxiety and eating disorders. Its basic premise is that invalid assumptions and mental representations, called schemas, hinder a person's psychological functioning, and the therapy aims to identify, challenge and adjust those assumptions.
