Trance

Sleep and Consciousness Phenomena

Trance is a state of semi-consciousness in which a person is not self-aware and is either completely unresponsive to external stimuli, while still capable of pursuing and carrying out a goal, or is selectively responsive, following the directions of whoever induced the trance, and such states may also occur involuntarily and unbidden. The term is associated with hypnosis, spirit possession, magic, flow, prayer, psychedelic drugs, and other altered states of consciousness.
