Ornithophobia

Clinical and Motivational Phenomena

Ornithophobia is the abnormal and irrational fear of birds, a type of specific phobia, and may also refer to a strong dislike of birds; sufferers are often afraid of specific kinds of bird, such as chickens, ducks or pest birds in grain-producing areas, and may fear being attacked, or simply feel uncomfortable around a bird's fluttering wings, the way it moves, the texture of its feathers, or the possibility of disease. Without treatment the phobia can become life-limiting, and it produces symptoms including heart palpitations, sweating, nervousness and avoidance behavior.
