Consistency Bias

Memory Biases and Effects

Consistency bias is a memory bias in which people incorrectly remember their past attitudes and behavior as more similar to their current attitudes and behavior than those past attitudes and behavior actually were. Because people tend to reconstruct earlier beliefs to fit their present ones, they typically underestimate how much their own views and conduct have genuinely changed over time.
