Automatic writing, also called psychography, is a claimed psychic ability that lets a person produce written words without consciously writing them. Practitioners hold a writing instrument, sometimes one built for the purpose such as a planchette or a Ouija board, and allow what they describe as spirits to manipulate their hand.
